According to HR experts, salary or pay is not the top criterion that predicts workplace satisfaction. It is the company culture. The values of an organization, leadership quality of senior emloyees, and career opportunities within the company, in that order, also impact workplace satisfaction. In fact, there has been a tremendous increase in the significance of culture over the past few years as by a 2016 Deloitte report. Eighty-six percent of the respondents in Deloitte’s survey opined that corporate culture has a key a role to play in the success of any business.

Many people agree that culture is important to business success, but they are not very clear as to what great culture is. Employees often understand culture as providing perks such as posh offices, great snacks, allowing them to bring their pets to work, or providing recreation facilities. These initiatives have the ability to make employees feel enthusiastic for a while, but they do not stick around for long.

In order to ensure a great culture, it is important to do a deeper analysis and build a long-term vision for the organisation. It should aim at changing attitudes and behaviours towards achieving a common goal. Putting up a few posters on the walls just does not cut it. Having said that here are three tips for building a better company culture:

#1: Create A Consensus

Prior to defining the organisation’s culture, get all stakeholders together to express their views and come to an agreement in defining culture by talking about acceptable and non-acceptable behaviours. As the next step, define the core values for setting standards for interactions and conducting business with one another. They should be picked up carefully to ensure that they are in agreement with what everyone wants.

#2: Involve Employees

After deciding the core values, communicate and educate everyone to ensure that they trickle down to all levels of employees. It should not be considered as a one-time event. It should be an on-going process. Leaders should back up cultural values by setting examples through their interactions and behaviour. Further, employees that perform with core values in mind should be rewarded regularly to motivate everyone.

#3: Get Together As Often As Possible

There should be enough reasons for everyone to feel motivated and do their best. Productivity is dependent to a great extent on the relationships that employees have with others in the organisation. For fostering healthy relationships, it is important that leaders make time for collaborative efforts.

Ensuring a change towards fostering a great company culture is in the hands of leaders. They can achieve their goal by sharing legendary stories and motivating, guiding, and enjoying informally with the employees as frequently as possible.
